MUSICA Matrix presents a House Concert near downtown Ashland.

Music from the 16th Century: Odhecaton a book containing the first music published in Europe using movable type

The repertoire is ‘chansons’ (French Songs) of the latter 15th and early 16th Centuries set by Northern Masters such as Josquin des Prez, Heinrich Isaac, Johannes Obrecht and others.

The texture will be four-part recorders for the most part, but will begin with a set of trios.

The group performs on a set of Renaissance style recorders built in the 90’s by David Ohanessian. These recorders haver a different fingering than modern recorders, which are based on the Baroque style. They also use a just temperament, rather than the Equal Temperament of modern music.
