Noted Baroque Flutist and recorder player Sherril Wood joins Pat O’Scannell local recorder wizard in presenting this special House concert. The two will explore works by Dutch Baroque composers including a special tribute to the famed Dutch Virtuoso of the 17th Century Jacob Van Eyck.
Van Eyck’s book Der Fluyten Lust-hof is a model and challenge for recorder players worldwide. It is widely studied to understand the complex style of divisions (melodic embellishments) employed at the time. Musicians took simple well-known melodies and improvised variations that grew increasingly more complex.
Sherril and Pat have played Baroque music together over the years with groups such as the Jefferson Baroque Orchestra and the Northwest Bach Ensemble, and reunite for a special duo performance. Sherril will appear with Music Matrix’s own Ensemble Fontegara next season, Ashland’s Renaissance Recorder Ensemble.
